SunMed, LLC today announced the acquisition of Omega Medical Products, LLC, a developer and manufacturer of medical devices located in Byron Center, Michigan.  The purchase is SunMed’s first of 2014 after acquiring Ethox Medical in June, 2013 and Ventlab, LLC in January, 2013.

“Omega has manufactured a few of our products for years, and we have also been very impressed with the results of the product development projects they have helped us with.” commented Dan Bowen, Founding Partner of Dempsey Ventures, and owner of SunMed.  “Combining Omega with SunMed allows us to vertically integrate production of some key products while adding valuable expertise to our product development team.  We are extremely pleased to have such a talented group join us.”

Mark Zyzelewski, the President and owner of Omega, will become the Vice President of Business Development at SunMed.  Zyzelewski will lead the expansion of SunMed’s anesthesia and respiratory product offerings through product improvements, product line extensions, new product development and by acquiring and creating intellectual property assets.

“Our goal is to improve and expand the SunMed, Ventlab and Ethox product portfolios to become an even more valuable partner with our customers.”  Mr. Zyzelewski stated.  “The Omega team is very excited to be joining a company with all the resources in place to make that happen.”

SunMed operates a 250,000 square foot facility in Zhuhai, China which provides low cost component manufacturing, a 160,000 square foot plant in Buffalo, NY with a 20,000 square foot Class 7 clean room and its new 105,000 square foot manufacturing and distribution center in Grand Rapids, Michigan into which it recently consolidated its Florida SunMed and the North Carolina Ventlab operations.

SunMed is actively seeking additional acquisitions in the anesthesia/respiratory space.  It is owned by Dempsey Ventures, an active holding company based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a focus on medical device businesses.  Leveraging extensive experience in the healthcare industry, Dempsey Ventures makes controlling and minority investments while actively participating in the operations and management of the companies it controls.
