Dempsey actively manages the companies it controls and seeks to be a "value-added" investor in those it does not control through consultative and cooperative participation on Boards or more informally through management interaction on strategic planning, financial and legal compliance and best practices for operations.
AirLife, Inc. (formerly SunMed)
Dempsey Ventures holds a minority ownership interest in AirLife, Inc., the world’s leading consumable breathing products company with a focus on respiratory, anesthesia, and patient monitoring products. Airlife, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, sells products under the SunMed, Vital Signs, Ballard, AirLife, Salter, Westmed, Ventlab, Intubrite, and Ethox brands. It is a global business with four manufacturing plants in Mexico, two in China, distribution centers in the U.S., Mexico, China, and Europe, and over 4,000 employees around the world. Dan Bowen serves on the company’s Board and John Sommerdyke is a Board Observer.
Bishop Distributing, LLC
Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bishop has been a premier commercial and residential flooring distributor since 1959. Its brands include Congoleum, Johnson Hardwood, Mercier, Matrexx, Shawmark and Homecrest. The purchase by Dempsey is an example of an owner looking to transition their businesses to a buyer who lives and works in West Michigan, desires to own the business long term and keep the business in the community. Dan Bowen serves on the Board and John Sommerdyke is a Board Member and serves as General Counsel.
TIDI Products
In 2015, Dempsey Ventures co-invested with RoundTable Healthcare Partners in TIDI Products based out of Neenah, Wisconsin. TIDI is a manufacturer and market share leader of innovative infection control and patient safety products for use in hospital, clinical and other environments where infection control is critical. Dan Bowen serves on TIDI’s Board.
VN Industries, Inc./Katt Medical Products, LLC
In 2016, Dempsey Ventures made an investment in VN Industries, Inc., a healthcare textile products business with a 500-employee, 185,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Vietnam (including controlled-environment and dyeing operations). John Sommerdyke serves on the Board and also serves as the company’s General Counsel.
AA Medical Store
In 2022, Dempsey co-invested with Shore Capital Partners in AA Medical Store whose mission is redefining the 3rd party medical device market. AA Medical Store strives to connect every doctor and surgeon in the world with affordable, high-quality medical equipment from the best-known OEMs in healthcare. Dan Bowen is a Board member of the company.
Best Metal Products
Is a leader in the design, prototyping, and manufacturing of hydraulic cylinders for OEMs in the industrial and mobile hydraulic cylinder markets.
Ablative Solutions
Is a developer of a new catheter-based approach for percutaneous delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic agents.
